MEN IN BEHAVIORAL HEALTH No. 4 (6.26.23)

"Throughout June, Men's Health Month aims to encourage boys and men to take charge of their overall health by implementing healthy living decisions."

Here at Prestige Healthcare Resources Inc., we want to highlight some of the Men in our agency who exemplify and promote healthy living.

                                                Feature of the Week:

Mr. Harry P. Lay

Q:  What is your name and how do you define “Healthy Living”?

A: My name is Harry Lay, a member of PHRI’s board of directors.  I define “healthy living” for a man as looking, feeling, and functioning the way a healthy man would.  That includes avoiding and preventing diseases, injuries, and staying “in shape” physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Q: What are some activities you do to maintain your health?

A: I exercise daily but vary the routine two or three times per week including stretching cardio, and strength-building exercises.

·       I try to get at least six hours of sleep every night and eight hours of sleep at least once per week.

·       I weigh every morning to make sure I stay within five pounds of my desired weight which I have done for the last 25 years.

·       I read/listen to books and articles daily about my hobby (fishing), general health, business, or spiritual topics to stay mentally sharp.

Q: What are some of your favorite foods you eat to maintain your health?

A: I eat more vegetables, fish, and chicken than I do red meat as I get older.  My beverage of choice is water to minimize dehydration and maintain my health.  I use the Optavia meal plan for a balanced diet most of the time which works for me in maintaining my health and weight.  My favorite food is a cheeseburger which I limit to no more than two per week.

Q: What are some things you do to maintain your physical/mental/emotional health?

A: Consistent exercise daily, even if only 30 minutes

·       Consistent eating habits for a healthy lifestyle

·       I plan and commit time with my “dear ones” who love and care for me

·       I spend time every week reading my Bible and in prayer

·       I learn something new every week about things that interest me—my hobbies, sports, and business topics that benefit me or my clients.

Thank You Mr. Lay!
